Rivers

The State of Minas Gerais contains some of the longest rivers of any state, such as the Paraná River, and the São Fransisco River. These rivers are all regulated with hydroelectric dams to make energy.

This type of energy source is extremely powerful. 70% of all renewable energy comes from hydroelectric dams. As well, it supplies 16% of the worlds total energy. With more dams being built, this world number is expected to increase 3.1% each year for the next 25 years.
Belo Horizonte


The capital of Minas Gerais is Bela Horizonte. It has a population of 2.5 million people, making it larger than Phoenix, as well as being the 6th largest city in Brazil. It hosted the 2014 World cup.

The Mangabeiras Park


This park is extremely large for being just a park, and is one of the largest tourist attractions in Belo Horizonte. Also has good picnic areas.

Igreja de São Francisco de Assis - Ouro Preto



This church  was constructed in the late 1700s, and is located in Ouro Preto. It is a beautiful church built by Brazillian architect/sculptor Antônio Francisco Lisboa. The top of the roof has a painting done by 
Manuel da Costa Ataíde. part of this painting can be seen on the picture below.

Music
The State of Minas Gerais truly created the greatest and most talented musicians that are widely regarded as the greatest of all time

 Borges


Lô Borges(Salomão Borges Filho) is 6th child of 11 brothers. He grew up musically trained, and went on to record music starting at 18 years old.

Milton Nascimento



Milton Nascimento was born in Rio de Janeiro, but moved to Bela Horizonte when he was 18 months old. Milton and Borges' brother, Marcio started composing music living together.

Clube da Esquina

Marcio and Borges went on to form Clube da Esquina. With the help of the many musicians of Clube da Esquina, Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges co-released their first album.



Importance

While the group achieved success for the album released, it later became an important peice of media. The State of Minas Gerais made an effort to find the two boys who were branded into the culture of Brazil. It took over a year to find them (cacau and tonho)

The album combined the progessive pop sound of America in the 1970's, and the instruments and compositions unique only to Brazil.
The album is considered by critics as a pinnacle of world music. According to RateYourMusic.com, not only is Clube Da Esquina the highest rated album of the genre of MPB (Música Popular Brasileira), but the highest rated regional release of all time.
