Nordeste do Brasil: Pernambuco/Ceará

 History/Background

Pernambuco is in the northeastern part of Brasil, and Ceara is located right below it.The first European settlement 1535 by a Portuguese nobleman. Sugar plantations helped the region. These plantations caused high slavery and the region; this state has a high percentage of African descendants. Pernambuco became the scene for many battles during the fight for independence.It has beaches, wooded areas, and plateaus. The rivers of area include small and large streams.

Economy

Agriculture is very high in both of these states: tropical and semi-tropical fruits. Mining, commerce, and manufacturing also contribute to the economy of Pernambuco. Mani manufacturers are cotton, sugar, and cigars. Ceara, on the other hand, depends on exports.

Capitals

Recife is the capital of Pernambuco. It is the second largest "medical hub" of Brazil. The state is also has multiple universities and many historical figures have moved here for their studies. Beaches and historic sites bring tourists into the state. It is the 9th largest city in Brazil in terms of population.
Fortaleza is the capital of Ceara. Most of the attractions are beaches with vendors, monuments, and water parks. It  is the fifth largest city in Brazil.  Dragão do Mar Center of Art and Culture is one of the main museums on Fortaleza. It has exhibitions, library, cinema, and a planetarium.

Music
The most popular music genre in Fortaleza in Forro, and electric forro, which has brought Brazilian music closer to pop music. Eduardo is one of the most famous singers of the region. He was born in Ceara, and his daughter is an actress. 
Frevo is a dance and music style from Recife. It is mainly tied to Brazilian carnivals.

Food
Queijo Coalho (light cheese) ,Carne de Sol (Dry meat), Roast Goat, Rabada (ox tail stew), Jerimum Recheado com Camarão/Peixe ao Coco (pumpkin stuffed with sea food and cocunut milk) are all food from Recife.

Farofa, feijoada, and ice cream are common dishes in Fortaleza.

Fruits are abundant in this part of Brazil. Jabuticaba, guarana, and Guava are native to the area.
