Sul do Brasil: Paraná e Santa Catarina

Sul do Brasil: Paraná

Location of State of Paraná in Brazil

Paraná is one of the southernmost regions of Brazil, and shares a border with Argentina and Paraguay.   Relatively rural compared to other regions, and still sporting an area of wilderness, Paraná still has a sprawling capital city with over 1.8 million people present.   The main industry of the region is agriculture, and compared to the rest of the country Paraná has a higher population of European descendants and immigrants.

Interesting and entertaining places

Castrolanda

Paraná is home to what, for lack of a better term, could be called a Dutch colony (called Castrolanda) that is one of the largest dairy farming communities in the country.   The Dutch in the region have done what Dutch settlers tend to do and have kept to their culture of farming and being relatively isolationist to wider society (think of the Amish or Afrikaner groups in their respective countries).   The traditional Dutch architecture that the occupants of Castrolanda have brought with them has been maintained and continues to be built; combined with the Dutch tradition of lovingly tending land the windmills and green fields lend to a beautiful aesthetic for the region.

Iguazu Falls
Cataratas.jpgParaná is home to the scenic Iguazu falls, which is significantly larger than Niagara falls, and draws large numbers of tourists.

Music
Argentine is the most prominent band from the region, and their style of music is similar to traditional tango music. Image result for music from Paraná region

Beaches

Paraná is home to several beaches covered in white sand with lush forests on one side and blue oceans on the other side.

Food of the region

Paraná has many different forms of food, but the most popular found through research is prato feito, a traditional dish with beans, rice, and various meats (whatever is available at the time to whoever is making it).   Most of the food from the region is very simple and what many would call "clean" (simple and hearty).   Paraná also is a source of the famous tea "Yerba Mate" which has become rapidly famous in the US due to its calm flavor and high caffeine content

Sul do Brasil: Santa Catarina

Location of State of Santa Catarina in BrazilJust south of Paraná, Santa Catarina borders Argentina and the Atlantic ocean.   It has one of the largest populations of Germans and Austrians in the country with over 50% of the region being Germanic language speaking.   Santa Catarina has roughly half the population of Paraná with about 6.7 million people.   The capital city of the region is Florianopolis, a rather Greek sounding name with what appears to be more Italian architecture, there is in fact a majority Italian town named "Nova Venezia" (new Venice) which is a center for Italian migrants into Brazil.   Santa Catarina is a region filled with the most prominent and culturally rich groups of Europeans who migrated to it, and shows it through both Architecture and people.

Interesting and Entertaining places
Florianopolis being the capitol city of the region is filled with plenty of classical architecture, like the Our Lady flight into Egypt cathedral (yellow exteriored cathedral on the right), and has many great bridges.   Classical architecture and nature aside, the sea ports of the region are frequented by Southern right whales, and has a healthy sea life which tourists can take advantage of and see.

Food of the region
Santa Catarina takes advantage of its rich waters and much of the food from the area is based around fish.   Along with fish based recipes there is a large amount of German and Italian inspired dishes such as marreco, a German inspired dish of duck with apple puree and sauerkraut,

Music
For music after two hours of searching through sources I haven't found anything at all for the music that has come from the region, quite literally nothing.   I am sure theres something but I couldn't find it.
